Now, it seems likely that the unknown game at that time was Fable 4. Playground made a separate studio outside of the Horizon team back in 2017, to work on an untitled game. However, Playground Games is also pretty well known for their large open worlds, which does fit the bill. That may seem a little odd considering that they are best known for the Forza Horizon games, and racing doesn’t seem like the right expertise for a fantasy action RPG. Instead, the new entry into the series will be helmed by Playground Games. This of course means the developers of Fable 4 won’t be the old guard that did the first three games. Unfortunately, it shut down back in 2016 when Fable Legends, a co-op action RPG for the series, was canceled. The original developer of the Fable series was Peter Molyneux’s Lionhead Studios. It should also be noted that, since all Xbox first-party games are available on Game Pass upon release, we can reasonably expect Fable 4 to be on Game Pass on release day as well, whenever that may be. According to the Xbox Games Marketing team, this does not mean it won’t release on the Xbox One for sure, but it is a distinct possibility that is mostly in the hands of the developing team. Of particular note is the fact that the game may not be available on the Xbox One, as it isn’t listed as a guaranteed release platform. Microsoft’s website for the title lists no release date whatsoever. On the other hand, we have no idea when that release is going to be.
